Aging and Prevention
People will often judge your age and even sex appeal solely by its appearance. The scientific evidence to date confirms that many people, unfortunately, abuse their skin, hair and nails. Women and men of all aging from every walk of the life, will take better care of their cars, then they do their own bodies. And the results couldn't be plainer than the nose (and skin) on your face! Unfortunately most people wait until there is a problem with their beauty and/or health before they do something about it. It is never too late or too early to be good to your body. The best and easiest way to maintain health and beauty is to take the steps necessary to prevent problems. Skin and hair problems start long before they are detected. Before you have acne, wrinkles, dry or oily skin, dull, brittle or balding hair, broken and weak nails, your internal health has determined the way your body will look on the outside. At the first signs of a beauty problem most people run to their nearest beauty supply or drug store for help. And judging by sales of skin-care products, many people are willing to spend an enormous amount of money and time in their quests for younger, cleaner and beautiful-looking skin. I have discovered that your first and foremost consideration should be to achieve healthy skin. Through all my years in the health field, my various experience with skin-care products, and all the latest research I have analyzed from the leading skin-care experts, I am going to teach you how to keep your skin and body healthy, beautiful and young.

Slow Down signs of Aging with Age Defiance Collection

To fully understand why your face shows signs of aging faster than any other area of the body, you first have to understand the composition of the skin. The skin has the largest surface of any organ in the body and is also the heaviest. On the surface are the sensation papillae, and within are certain organs with special functions, the sweat glands, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands. The skin protects the internal organs of the body against infection, injury, and harmful sun rays. It also plays an important role in the regulation of body temperature. In other works, the skin is a outer shield for are body. Although the skin of an average-sized adult may weigh as much as twenty pounds, it is only paper thin in some places and not much thicker in others. The skin is composed of two tissues, an outer layer called the epidermis and an inner layer called the dermis. The surface of the skin, or the epidermis, consists of dead cells. Just below, in the dermis, the cells are very much alive. The cells of the dermis continually multiply to replace those cells that are exfoliate off. (This is why exfoliation, the sloughing off of dead surface skin cells, can turn dull, dry skin glowing and beautiful). The epidermis consists of four layers: the stratum basale, the stratum spinosum, the stratum granulosum, and the stratum corneum. The stratum basale is the deepest layer of the epidermis, consisting of a single row of columnar or cuboidal cells. The epidermal cells originate from this layer and new cells are continually being produced. This layer is also where the deep lines and wrinkles can be found. As the cells in this layer increase in number, they are pushed outward and become part of the stratum granulosum.

The stratum spinosum is the middle layer of the epidermis between the stratum basale and the stratum granulosum. Cells pass through this layer and contribute to die, moving up to the stratum granulosum. The granulosum is the thin layer of epidermis, composed of only a few layers of cells just above the stratum spinosum. The cells of the stratum granulosum fill with keratin (protein) and then die as they continue upward to reach the top layer, the stratum corneum. The entire process takes about 30 days, and when the dead cells are exfoliated or worn off then the whole process repeats itself. The stratum corneum is technically the uppermost layer of the epidermis, the outer layer. This outer layer is important in determining how your skin looks and feels. It is composed of flat, dead cells which have lost their nucleic. The stratum corneum layers are constantly being sloughed off and may resemble dandruff. This layer is also the same layer that will give your skin that dull, and dry look and will contain those fine lines and wrinkles. Keeping this layer free of dead skin cells is important for the healthy look of the skin. Keratin, a protein found in hair and fingernails, is also found in the cells of the stratum corneum and prevents moisture evaporation. The dermis, is the thick, relatively soft inner most tissue of the skin. It shields and repairs injured tissues and is about four times thicker than the epidermis (outer layer of the skin). The dermis contains the support system for the skin--the system of collagen and elastic fibers that give skin its elasticity and youthful appearance. The dermis consists mainly of protein collagen, which builds scar tissue to mend cuts, abrasions, and skin damage. The dermis nourishes the epidermis with nutrients and contains nerve endings and blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood to the skin. The base of hairs are also located in the dermis along with sweat glands and oil glands, which produce sebum, a complex mixture of fats that, along with water moisture, and keeps your skin moist and soft.

Wrinkle Prevention
All of us know that our skin has changed since we were young. It passes through the soft and delicate characteristics of baby skin to childhood's smooth, velvety texture and resilient nature. The teenage years, no doubt, brought bouts with blemishes and oily skin. By our early twenties our skin finally look like it is shaping up. Then we get into our late twenties or early thirties, and our skin begins to show signs of aging with some dryness and few fine lines. By the age of forty, our skin is described as "mature," and we are experiencing the problem by aging skin. But should we just except that fact that because we are aging, so must our skin? I don't know about you, but I will fight it every step of the way, and if there is a product or something I can do to prevent just one little line or reverse the signs of aging, I'm am going to do it, try it, and work on it. For goodness sake I am a 60's child: I stood up for freedom, I fought for more rights, I burn my bra in protect, and now I am just expected to aging gracefully? I don't think so! And I believe most of you feel the same way because if you didn't you would not be reading this book. I am in my 45, raised 3 kids by myself, and I'm now the grandmother of 3 grandchildren. My life has just begun at the age of 40. Everyone is always taking about love and happiness, but it has taken me a while to learn what love and happiness is. Love and happiness is being out with your grandchild and someone saying "your child is so cute". Love is being young at heart, mine, soul and in physical appearances. I believe I can attribute my youthful looks to good health, good nutrient, exercise, and using natural skin care products. This web site will tell you why people age, and how to prevent it, and how to improve your looks and health. No matter what your age is,  it's never to late to prevent wrinkles and take care of your health.

Characteristics Of The Skin

As the skin ages, it characteristically becomes drier and loses its elasticity. The rejuvenating capabilities slow down and the oxygen and nutrient supply decreases as our bodies' circulation decreases. These changes take place in the dermal layers of the skin, beneath the surface. How fast and to what extent this dermal layers changes depends on four things:

(1) your age, (2) your heredity,   (3) your skin care habits; and, (4) your eating habits.
Of course, we have no control over our age, and as time passes, our skin is more prone to wrinkles. We also have no control over our heredity and the type of skin that we are born with. Thinner, fairer, drier - skinned people tend to wrinkle sooner than those with darker, thicker and more oily skin. I have all the first skin type so I natural prone to wrinkle sooner, just as my mother and grand-mother both wrinkled at an early age. However, no matter what your heredity is, there is much that can be done to establish youthful and great-looking skin. First, one has to establish positive skin care habits and replenish the nutrients that keep the inevitable telltale signs of aging at a minimum-and even reverse them. The skin responds very well to a healthy program designed to prevent wrinkles. On such a program it is possible to have soft, beautiful, radiant and young-looking skin for a lifetime. The health program consists of healthy eating habits, using natural skin-care products, and by following the suggestions below.

The Sun
The best advice that you will ever receive to prevent the premature aging of the skin is to stay out of the sun. Though it may be impractical or may not suit your lifestyle, the sun can be hazardous to your skin. The earth's ozone only partially filters the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun. The sun causes irreparable damage to exposed skin and can result in premature wrinkling, scaling, dryness, age spots, broken capillaries, skin discoloration, and skin cancer. Doctor's, dermatologists and skin care professionals, all recommend wearing a sunscreen whenever you are going to be out in the sun - winter and summer - to prevent the damaging effects. Sunscreens are best applied 30 to 60 minutes before going in the sun and need to be re-applied after swimming, perspiring or toweling off. There are two major types of ultraviolet light emitted from the sun: ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB). Both forms are implicated in skin cancer, but UVA can also cause skin damage and premature aging. So went purchasing a sunscreens make sure that it contents both UVA and UVB protection. Additional recommendations are to stay out of direct sunlight between eleven o'clock and two o'clock (when the sun's rays are the most intense); avoid tanning booths, sunlamps and tanning pills and cover your skin with clothing if it is not protected by a sunscreen. For those who like to add a little color to their skin, I recommend self tanning and skin bronzer products. Besides skin damage, ultraviolet radiation can enter our eyes, forming free radicals. These free radicals may damage the lens, leading to cross-linking (undesired links between protein chains, reducing elasticity in the connective tissue), and, possibly, cataracts. Wearing sunglasses whenever you are outside will help protect your eyes. Antioxidants are needed for fighting everyday free radicals from the inside to the outside. Age Protection day cream is the best way to fight aging from the outside. Herbals Antioxidants such as grape seed, pycnogenol, garlic, are the best antioxidants that help slow cellular aging.

Stay Healthy - Antioxidants Supplements
There are plenty of reasons not to smoke. It been proven to causes lung cancer, emphysema and increases the risk of heart disease, just to list a few. But if you care about the condition and the beauty of your skin, then vanity may be the best reason not to smoke. Smoking causes premature aging of the skin, browning of the teeth and fingers, damage to the hair, not to mention the foul odor smell on your breath and clothes. Smoking, which once was considered "sexy" in the '60s and '70s is now a "no-no" and is on today's list of non-attractive habits. Cigarette's carbon monoxide and nicotine have a very harmful effect on the circulatory system and deprive the skin tissue of much-needed oxygen. People who smoke can develop a pallid (gray) complexion, and develop wrinkles much sooner than those who do not smoke. Studies have shown that a forty-year-old smoker's skin is comparable to a sixty-five-year-old non-smoker's skin. In addition, a smoker's skin does not heal well. One of the main reason for this is that smoke destroy vitamin C in the body. Vitamin C is important for healing wounds and has the primary function of maintaining collagen, a protein necessary for the formation of connective tissue in skin, ligaments, and bones. However, due to the body's miraculous ability to rejuvenate, even after years of smoking, skin color and texture can improve, over time, after the smoking has stopped. If you do smoke increase your vitamin C intake to 500 mg. twice a day. MSM is also useful with collagen. Apply Cell Renewal Treatment

bullet
Drinking Alcohol
Recent studies are now showing that alcohol consumption for even moderate drinkers (one to two ounces per day) can lead to liver damaged, a variety of cancers, and may contribute to osteoporosis. It is certain that anything which has this kind of effect on one's general health is going to affect the skin. Alcohol dehydrates the skin and impedes circulation, thus robbing it of precious moisture and vital nutrients. It can lead to broken or distended capillaries, especially over the nose and cheeks. Alcohol also depletes the body of vitamins and minerals needed for a healthy complexion. Hydrating Skin Nutriment is very important in replenishing and moisten vital nutrients the skin needs for a youthful and healthy complexion. Antioxidants, MSM and Vitamin C should be taken daily.

bulletPoor Quality Cosmetics
Cosmetics with inferior ingredients can actually harm the skin by drying it out, irritating it or clogging the pores. Beware of skin care products with large amounts of alcohol, oils, chemicals, and especially, artificial colors and artificial fragrances all which can contribute to free radicals damage. Some natural - ingredient products containing small amounts of natural alcohol such as benzyl, cetyl (use as a emulsifier or preservative) can be safe. You can tell by the string or drying of the face how much alcohol a product has. Using cosmetics of poor quality in many cases can be worse than using nothing at all. Look for products that contain natural ingredients such as vegetable oils, fruit acids such as glycolic and lactic acids, herbal extracts, micellized vitamins and essential oils such as fatty acids. Even though products containing natural ingredients are more expenses than chemicals or artificial products you will definitively see the difference in the way your skin looks and feels. Perfect Body Parts skin care are natural products just the way mother nature intended skin care product to be.
Why Exercise Is Important
A Healthy And Youthful Skin Glow

With age, illness and the lack of exercise, the blood supply that flows to the skin, nourishing it with nutrients and oxygen, diminishes - and you lose your naturally rosy cheeks and general healthy youthful look. Exercise and fresh air are very important not only in the health of your skin, but for the way your skin looks and feels. There are a number of reasons why exercise and fresh air are important.
1. Exercise boots blood circulation, which, in turn, ups the rate at which skin cells receive oxygen and nutrients. The flush on your face after a good workout is a sign that your skin has just had a real meal.

2. Exercise gradually increases blood volume; that means more nutrients and more oxygen are carried to the skin.

3. Exercise and fresh air can relieve stress, which shows up eventually as lines and wrinkles on the face.

4. Exercise precipitates, which flushes out dirt and impurities, such as uric acid, from the skin and brings more natural moisturizers to the epidermis.

5. Exercise raises skin temperature - from 86 F. to 98.6 F., and in doing so steps up the production of collagen, which keeps skin thick and young-looking.

6. Exercise burns calories and helps you maintain your weight and avoid the yo-yo syndrome of repeated weight gains and losses, which ages skin dramatically.

Skin Care Guide helps you keep skin healthy

Another reason you lose your youthful glow and, perhaps, gain an uneven skin tone with aging is the dead cells at the top of your epidermis that are not being shed as effectively or as fast as they used to be. While young skin naturally gets rid of these dead cells and replaces them with fresh new cells within fifteen to twenty days, older skin requires twenty-five to thirty-five days for the same process. In plain language, what this means is that the dead cells remain on the surface of your skin too long; they clump together, clogging pores, causing an ashen, dull and sometimes a leathery - looking skin tone. Thus, the absolute importance of stepping up the exfoliating of dead cells on the surface of your skin as you get older for maintaining a youthful skin tone.

bullet
Exfoliation and Face Peels
Your skin is a living organ made up of millions of cells. Every day thousands of cells die, fall off and are replaced by new cells from below. Unfortunately, as we age, this become a slower and more difficult procedure. Your skin becomes unable to shed dark blotches, sun damage, or a dull, lifeless complexion. Exfoliation or peeling off the top layers of dead and damaged skin cells is necessary in creating an even, controlled shedding of several layers of the skin surface. This exposes a new fresh layer of skin with a more even color and a smoother, cleaner texture. In addition, the exfoliation of dead skin cells stimulates new cells to grow, thereby tightening the skin, which decreases wrinkling.   Also see Home Peels and Facial.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs)
Alpha hydroxy acids might be the anti-aging miracle workers of the '90's. These New Age, wrinkle -smoothers from plants, fruits and/or milk products also help clear blemishes, hydrate the skin and lighten pigment spots by loosening one to several layers of dead cells clinging to the skin's surface. AHAs are so powerful on the skin that cosmetic companies are putting them in everything from cleansers and creams to masks and lotions. In 1993 alone, over 100 new products containing some type of AHA hit store shelves or infomercial time slots from coast to coast. Today AHAs are in products sold everywhere including grocery stores, door-to-door, and mail order. Yet,  consumers complaint they did not know much about them except that they will take years off the skin in a matter of weeks. So here are eight facts to know before choosing any Alpha hydroxy acid product.

AHAs DO MORE THAN OTHER COSMETICS- BUT NOT AS MUCH AS MIGHT BE EXPECTED

No other ingredient in cosmetics are as powerful as AHAs when it comes to peeling away dead, rough and/or uneven layers of old skin. That's because AHAs work by dissolving the glue-like lipids holding cells together and can penetrate deep into the skin to loosen these cling bonds.   When dead cells are decreased, there are fewer crack fissures that can lead to irritation - so skin is healthier acting and younger looking. The peaks and valleys that form surface lines even out, dead cells that plug up pores are dissolved, pigment that has build up in surface skin is whisked away, and cells renewal is returned to a rate closer to when it was at 30 years of age. The increased cell renewal causes cells to become denser and more compact, making skin a more effective barrier to outside irritants and holding moisture inside to keep the skin pliable, supple and more comfortable. Now before you run out and buy this miracle cream, a word of caution. AHAs will not remove wrinkles altogether, as some salespeople profess. At this time AHAs in the amounts we are using (2 to 10 percent) are categorized as "cosmetics" by the Food and Drug Administration. At this amount AHAs will work on the skin's surface to produce surface improvement, create smooth lines, free pores of clogging cells, lighten pigment marks and revels younger and fresher skin. Deep wrinkles are located deep in the skin, and will have to be prevent from within through nutrients and diet.

THERE'S MORE TO THE AHA FAMILY THAN GLYCOLIC ACID

When AHAs first arrived on the cosmetic scene, glycolic acid was the acid of choice due to its small molecular size. Not so anymore. Now there is a wide range of AHA products: Lactic Acid from soured or buttered milk, molasses, yogurt, honey or bilberries; Tartaric Acid from grapes, berries, currants, passion fruit, honey-suckle and red wine; Citric Acid from citrus fruit of all types; Malic Acid from apples; and Gluconic Acid from corn. Some cosmetic companies are even designing their own synthetic version, coming up with names like gluconolactone and hydroxy-caprylic acid, while others are adding the whole plant or milk extract for a totally natural approach such as fruit extract and plant extract. I think all these natural forms are all right, but to see efficient results using any AHA, higher percentages are needed. Most cosmetic products containing AHA do not tell consumers the amounts used in their products. However, look for AHA acids to be near the beginning of the ingredient list (since by law the ingredients with the highest amounts have to listed in order, from the highest to lowest), or those products which actually list the amount on the label.

NOT ALL AHAs WORK THE SAME

As with any family, each member of the AHA family has unique characteristics. That uniqueness is size-related. Glycolic acid is the smallest molecule, so it goes to work the quickest and deepest, but it can also be one of the most irritating.  Lactic acid is the second largest, and is believes by many researchers to be the new acid of choice since it doesn't penetrate as deeply, so it is less irritating, but still cause great smoothing of the skin.  Next up in size is tartaric and milic acids; then, citric, gluconic and many of the new synthetics products. These work only on and near the skin surface, so they take longer to show improvement, but are virtually guaranteed not to sting, burn or redden the skin and cost less to manufactured. In my experience I have found, glycolic acid and lactic acid to work the best for both fine lines and deep wrinkles.

IRRITATION ISN'T NEEDED TO SEE RESULTS

A little stinging during application of AHAs is normal. However, if stinging continues, or redness, small bumps and/or welts appear, don't think they're signs on the road to improvement. Irritation is counter productive to healing or repair because the resulting inflammation produces enzymes that destroy collagen and other structures. With irritation, people could actually look older than when they started using AHAs. To keep stringing and irritation to a minimum, apply Hydrating Skin Nutriment before applying any AHAs product.   Applying this non-oil non-clogging moisturizer, is very important in replenishing the with skin nutriment such as micellized vitamins, liposome, and herbal extracts. These  essential nutrients can build and maintain skins pH balance and much needed moisture reserves. Skin that is not pH balance, can become irritated and sensitive to AHAs products. I also recommend building up to a daily use by applying the AHAs product once every other day for two weeks, then once a day for two weeks, to twice a day thereafter.

PERCENTAGE IS NOT AS IMPORTANT AS PH.

Higher AHA percentages don't guarantee a product will work better - only faster. A study by doctors, using between 50 percent and 70 percent AHAs as a high - intend face peel and store - bought products which contain between 2 to 10 percent AHAs was conducted to see which was more affective for wrinkles, and skin damage. The study was conducted over a six week period. By the sixth week, regardless of percent-age, most everyone in the study saw results. What was really important was the pH - the measurement used to detect whether a substance is acidic (low pH) or alkaline (high pH). You can get better results with a low percentage of 2.5 pH than with a higher percentage of 4.5 pH.  In tests comparing two liquids containing 3 percent lactic acid, one at 3 percent pH (acidic) and one at 7 percent pH (neutral), doctors found pH - not percentage - was indeed the key to improvement. The 3 percent pH product increased skin firmness by 35 percent, cell renewal by 33 percent, smoothness by 44 percent and reduced clinical lines and wrinkles by 55 percent. An 18 percent increase in hydration was the only improvement found with the 7 pH products, since AHAs is a moisture - bonding humectant at any acidity. Ultimately, doctors and other researchers have found the best results are seen between 2.5 pH and 4 pH, with no benefits other than hydration noted above 6 pH. Unfortunately, manufactures don't list pH on the container, but gels, liquids, oil - free and products containing natural oils at a small percentage, tend to be more acidic resulting in better results. Products that are oily and heavily, tend to be more neutral resulting in little to no results.  People with oily skin need to use an AHAs product that is a oil - free or gel due to the oil on their skin. People with dry skin should use a natural cream - based AHA product. This can help balance the pH on the skin for best results. For aging, skin with large pores and oily skin,  I recommend a Cell-Renewal Treatment that is gel based. Too many creams on the face can clog the pores and leave the complexion dull and offset the pH balance of the skin. For dry skin, I recommend Turn-Around Treatment. For sensitive skin, I recommend using an oil-free hydrating moisturizer such as Hydrating Skin Nutriment  before applying any AHA product.
